Lets see what I got...
1. Comparison is the thief of joy.
2. Stop sugar coating shit. Say it like you mean it. Say it like it is.
3. It could always be worse. Stay positive, stay grateful.
4. Tell people what you need.
5. And listen when they express their needs too.
6. Do small things with great love.
7. Stick to your word.
8. Eat the damn cookie.
9. But also, go on the damn run/hike/swim/bike.
10. There's a difference in embracing cultures (race, ethnicity, gender, religious, LGBTQA) and confining them to lines. Understand the difference and embrace them rather than confine.
11. Be the bigger person and apologize/forgive first.
12. Always know the first time won't be perfect.
13. Make sure your people know they're loved and worthy of good love.
14. Also understand that YOU are worthy of good love.
15. You don't have to go it alone all the time, when given the chance, let others take care of you.
16. Say "please" and "thank you." It really does go a long way.
17. Find time to understand that we are all human. We all make mistakes, we all have flaws, but we're all also pretty incredible people.
18. Know that every season of life won't be full of sunshine. Accept the growing process even when it isn't so sunny.
19. Own up to it. Whether it be good or bad.
20. Find a reason to be better everyday.
21. Spend time alone. Go to the store alone. Have dinner by yourself. Read a book snuggled up on the couch or in your favorite coffee shop. Spending time alone is good for the soul.
22. Talk to God. He's got the answer.
23. "Have a great day. Make good choices. Be nice to people. Smile & wear your seat belt." - Miss Martinez
This year has been an incredibly tough transition. Leaping from student to teacher has been so much more challenging than I expected. Some days I cry, some days I laugh. But I've gotten into the habit of reminding myself each morning that the sun rises and I rise with it to be grateful. Days aren't promised and everyday that I'm here is a chance to fulfill the promises He has given me.
I couldn't ask for a better family, set of wonderfully weird friends, more supportive boyfriend, or more genuinely loving and sweet souled students.
23 is gonna be a good one, y'all.
